While offering our customers the highest quality products, we also want to guide them on the correct use and maintenance of our bags. When purchasing our bags made of leather and Vegan leather, we recommend that you pay attention to some basic information to ensure long-term use and durability.
Slight differences in leather are completely normal for the natural leather types used by Maialis Design.
All types of leather and other delicate materials (including metal accessories) can be affected by humidity. Humidity, salt and atmospheric agents in general can cause permanent and irreversible wear and tear. Therefore, please avoid rain and direct contact with heat, oil, grease (make-up), alcohol (perfume solvents) and other corrosive products and surfaces, as Maialis Design cannot accept liability for the eventual deterioration, alteration and misuse of our products.
Avoid contact with any material that could transfer color pigments to our products.
All materials are supplied to be of exceptional quality and are thoroughly tested before sale.
Always store your product in the dust bag provided when not in use.
Do not use any cleaning products and avoid scratching or excessive wear as the fabric cannot be repaired once damaged. We recommend using professional services to properly care for your bag.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
LEATHER GOODS
Throughout the life of your product, you may notice a softening of the silhouette and a naturally occurring patina. This evolution along with the presence of natural aspects such as natural marks, wrinkles, and veins are anticipated and serve as proof of the uniqueness and authenticity of our products. Each impression leaving a lasting memory to be cherished forever.
To preserve the shape of your product, it should not be over-packed. When product is not in use, it is best to store it in the felt provided at purchase in a ventilated area. Storage in boxes or near sources of heat are not recommended as it has a drying effect on the materials.
A hallmark of this leather is its transparency, which reveals natural markings such as veins and wrinkles, proving it has not been treated. This delicate, easily scratched leather will develop a rich amber patina, unique to each bag, and a greater suppleness in time. This patina, along with wear acquired through use, signifies as proof of the product’s authenticity and journey alongside the owner. If the leather becomes stained before patina, do not try to clean it. Allow the leather to naturally darken and stains will become less apparent.
Should this leather encounter water, blot immediately with a lint-free light colored, absorbent cloth. Cleaning with any solvents or chemicals is not recommended. Home remedies to darken the leather such as mink oil, saddle soap, leather lotions, or substances of any kind should be avoided at all costs. These chemicals can compromise the quality and integrity of the leather as it wears in time.
Through a rigorous selection process, calfskin and cowhide leathers are chosen for their refinement, suppleness and silky touch. To meet Maialis Design’s highest quality standards, only the best hides are selected. They may carry natural imperfections, such as veins or wrinkles.
These carefully selected leathers can be compromised with the use of any commercial cleaners. Elements such as oils, make up, perfumes, creams, or sanitizers applied to the leather can compromise its natural beauty and performance capabilities. For surface stains, we recommend cleaning with a soft, damp cloth with water.
As our exotic skins are processed naturally, it is essential to protect from humidity, water spray and rain. Avoid all contact with water, alcohol-based solutions such as hand sanitizers, or any other liquids, which may alter the texture causing permanently visible stains and color transfer. Should your bag encounter water, immediately and gently blot the affected area with a light-colored, absorbent, lint-free cloth. Exposure to sunlight should be avoided as color may fade.
Crocodile, python and lizard skins are particularly sensitive to humidity and heat. We recommend that you avoid any cleansing cream or product that would deeply stain your product.
Extraordinary creations that include any metallic leathers, beading, feathers, sequins or printing, require special care and should only be cleaned with a soft, light-colored, lint-free cloth.
Extra soft and luxurious, Maialis suede is durable but should not be exposed to water.
OTHER MATERIALS
It is unique, created through a painstakingly developed and impeccably executed process. Being supple and sturdy, it is perfectly suited for contemporary lifestyles.
Canvas can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth and slightly soapy water. Home remedies such as mink oil, perfume, lcohol-based solutions such as hand sanitizers, leather lotions, cleaners, or chemicals, should not be used on any canvas products. The use of such remedies may cause the canvas to wear adversely and prematurely.
Contact with highly pigmented materials increases the risk of color transfer onto the canvas and should be avoided.
Each printing technique consists of thin layers of ink applied on top of the canvas. Such techniques allow for intricate designs and colors but can be susceptible to abrasion and fading. This can appear with gentle use at the areas of greatest wear (such as the corners, folds, and bottom).
To avoid such abrasion, limit the contact to hard or rough surfaces (walls, rugs, concrete) and rotate the use of your handbag to ensure optimal wear and longevity.

Vegan leather is a quite durable material due to its coating but it can still become marked with wear. It needs to be cared for in order to maintain optimum condition. To maintain the stretch finish, the product should be handled with due care.

ACCESSORIES PRODUCT CARE
With the finest materials, intricate weaves and print varieties, Maialis Design textiles are crafted in following our highest quality standards. These luxurious and delicate textiles require special handling and attention to ensure these attributes over time:
- Textiles are susceptible to the appearance of pulls caused by sharp objects such as fingernails, jewelry, zippers, etc., and should be avoided.
- When not in use, store in a cool, dry place away from dust and humidity.
- Dry cleaning is recommended for cleaning. Any home remedies or machine washing can severely damage the textile.
Your Maialis Desing belt will be crafted from either leather or canvas with a fashion jewelry buckle.
- Avoid wearing the belt too tightly as this can stretch the leather.
- If your belt is reversible, the buckle is designed to be removed easily so you can wear your belt facing the alternate side.
- Stretching the leather can make the buckle support looser over time.
Maialis Design leather belt strap will consist of either natural leather or calfskin & cowhide leather.
- For all leather straps, cleaning with any solvents or chemicals is not recommended.
- Home remedies to darken the leather such as mink oil, saddle soap, leather lotions, or substances of any kind should be avoided at all costs. These chemicals can compromise the quality and integrity of the leather as it wears in time.

Maialis uses colored coated hardware on your bags. Hardware does not lose its clarity and color when used carefully. Avoid contact with different surfaces. Avoid all contact with liquids, especially creams or hand lotions.
